The Braniff name had a long run in the airline industry before finally disappearing in the early 1990s. Unfortunately, the three separate airlines to operate under the Braniff name were not of the same high caliber as the original. Braniff III was started in 1991 using 10 727s and the assets of bankrupt Emerald Air, which included three DC-9s. Only one of these, DC-9-14 N931EA, was painted in Braniff colors and operated revenue flights (mainly to Nassau). The third incarnation of Braniff died an ugly death after a year, with its two top corporate officers being convicted of felonies, and serving jail time, after widespread embezzlement, fraud, and obstruction were uncovered. The DC-9 was painted overall dark blue (approximately FS 15056) with bright, light blue titles and white door outlines.
