From June 2003 until November 2004, Ryan International Airlines operated Airbus A320 aircraft on behalf of AirTran Airways to open up West Coast markets, prior to the delivery of Boeing 737-700 aircraft that AirTran had on order. Eventually, four IAE V2500-powered aircraft were used, serving Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Orlando. In a bit of irony, one of these Airbus A320s flew AirTran executives to Boeing Field in Seattle for the delivery ceremony of the airlines first Boeing 737-700. Following the end of the AirTran contract, these A320s went on to serve with AtlasJet of Turkey.
