Description

MetroJet was an ill-fated attempt by US Airways to defend its East Coast market against Southwest Airlines and other Low-Cost carriers. Based at Baltimore-Washington Int’l, the operation was a no frills airline-within-an-airline utilizing Boeing 737-200s. Though the operation grew substantially, to over 40 aircraft, it failed to live up to the hopes of US Airways management, and was closed down after the terror attacks of 9/11/01. Due to its quick expansion, some aircraft operated in their prior USAir bare metal scheme with MetroJet titles. While a number of these hybrid aircraft eventually received full MetroJet colors, some, including N260AU, never did.
