For a time in late 1965 and early 1966, Douglas used N1051T, the first DC-9 for TWA as a company demonstrator aircraft. The aircraft served as a sales tool, being shown to prospective airlines, and even flying on some of those airlines’ routes, including a three-leg trip for North Carolina-based Piedmont Airlines in December 1965.
