CBS 1953 Coronation P-51B Released
Originally owned by Joe DeBona and actor Jimmy Stewart, “Thunderbird” had been sold to Jacqueline Cochran after the 1949 Bendix race, and the pioneer aviator had used the P-51 to set several new records. Stewart and DeBona reacquired the P-51 in early 1953 for the purpose of flying the Coronation films from Goose Bay to Boston for CBS Television.
“Impatient Virgin” P-51B Released
“Impatient Virgin”, a “Malcolm Hood” P-51B Mustang flew with the 376th FS, 361st FG. The aircraft crashed in England in 1945 and the wreckage was recovered in 2002 and restored to fly again.
“Princess Elizabeth” P-51C Released
The modern “Princess Elizabeth” reproduces Lt. William Whisner’s P-51B-10 HO-W 42-106449 of the 487th FS, 352nd FG. “Princess Elizabeth”, and was extensively rebuilt at Duxford in the early 2000s to an authentic P-51B/C spec before being shipped to the USA in time to attend the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in 2007. This decal represents this Mustang as it appeared at Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in 2007.
